Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students with the tools needed to design interventions for the recovery and preservation of historical buildings in the light of the current instances of seismic upgrading and architectural restoration.
Program
Safety and conservation: evolution of the scientific positions and today's debate. How a masonry historical building works. The seismic problem: seismic response of historical buildings. Critical survey as a knowledge and diagnostic tool. Architectural restoration requirements as the basis of the project. Elaboration of designing actions to recover and preserve a historical building and its constructive elements. Conservation of historical surfaces. Conservation of frescoes on light vaults. Case studies.
Development of the examination
LEARNING EVALUATION METHODSstudents are evaluated through 2 levels:
- first level: evaluation of the annual exercises;
- second level: oral exam on one or more topic
LEARNING EVALUATION CRITERIAif they want to have a positive evaluation, students have to demonstrate to have rightly assimilated the concepts pointed out during the course, that is, the design of correct interventions on architectural heritage throughout all the needed phases (from the critic survey to the definition of the new constructive details).
LEARNING MEASUREMENT CRITERIAa score (0-30) is assigned to each level. The final mark is the average value of the two level
FINAL MARK ALLOCATION CRITERIAin order to have a posive evaluation, students have to reach at least the score of 18/30 in each level. The maximum evaluation is assigned for a complete knowledge of the topics for each level. The evaluation of 30 cum laude is assigned to students who demonstrate a particular skill both in oral exam and in the annual exercise.
