Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge relevant for designing unconventional geotechnical structures. The course presents some real cases that are discussed from a general point of view, figuring out several possible alternatives in order to select the best solution.

Program
Regulations on geotechnical design in Italy. The new building code. AGI’s Recommendations. Eurocode 7 and 8. Overview on geotechnical carachterization. Buried pipes. Structural waterproofing. GCLs. Geosynthetics. Excavations. Drainage works. Interaction with existing structures. Buried pipes. Land reclamation by hydraulic fills. Soli improvement, Slope stability. Monitoring. Level surveys. Inclinometers. Sesmic design of geotechnical structures Shallow foundations. Pile foundations.

Development of the examination
LEARNING EVALUATION METHODS
The exam consists in oral questions. The student shall answer questions regarding at least three different topics of the course program. If the answer requires short calculations, these shall be carried out in written form during the exam.

LEARNING EVALUATION CRITERIA
To pass the exam, the student must be able to demonstrate adequate knowlegde of the course subjects by correctly answering to the questions using an adequate technical teminology. The highest grade will be attributed to the students who will demostrate deep knowledge and understanding of the course content as well as the abililty to make links with the contents of basic and related courses.

LEARNING MEASUREMENT CRITERIA
The final grade will be attributed in /30

FINAL MARK ALLOCATION CRITERIA
Each group of answers regarding a given topic will be marked with a score ranging between 0/10 and 10/10. It is not admitted to score less than 6/10 (the student will have to resit the exam) on a given topic. The distinction grade (30/30 e lode) will be attrbuted to the students who will demostrate complete mastery of the subject.
