Learning outcomes
The course has the dual purpose of providing the fundamental concepts of computer science and the basic
elements of computer graphics to support the architectural and urban planning. In particular, at the end of the
course the student will be able to understand the functionality of the main components of computer systems
and the most important aspects of graphical modeling and rendering process, both seen as a series of logical
processes. The laboratory focuses on exercises that are intended to illustrate the methodologies for the
realistic rendering of three-dimensional models through the use of software packages for vector and raster
graphics.
Program
Role of CAD/BIM tools in the modern representation of the project and employment of Computer Graphics techniques for the creation of digital images for the support of visual communication.
Laboratory workshops with CAD/BIM modelling systems: development of 3D simplified projects; automatic generation of views, plants, prospects and sections starting from the 3D model; use of data exchange formats for the sharing of the project.
Laboratory workshops with a rendering system; introduction to shading and raytracing algorithms; import of the geometric model and setting of the scene; definition of the materials also through procedural maps and texture; setting of standard and photometric lights, choice and setting of the parameters of the lighting algorithm and rendering. Laboratory workshop with an image processing system: dimension and resolution of images, use of levels for the management and composition of the image; use of filters, adjustment of light curves, contrast, tone and saturation.
Development of the examination
Students activity will be tested in the examination of the teaching which is entrusted with the management of the laboratory.
