Learning outcomes
The course considers the sustainability and its implications for the practice of architecture, particularly for the built environment. Two class of particular methodologies are analyzed and applied in practice: (1) life
cycle assessment (LCA) and (2) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) or similar analysis methodologies. The fundamentals of each approach will be presented and applied during design activities. Class meetings will consist of general lectures followed by a tutorial/discussion session. Students are required to apply these technologies in the practice by mean specific design activities.
Program
The focus of the course is the analysis and the application of sustainability contepts to the building design. Students will develop the design of a building considering the impact of the building and of building technoligies used on the environment, using LCA and LCC methodologies.
