Learning outcomes
Criteria and knowledge for the design of the wastewater treatment plants are given, focusing on both the basic and the more advanced processes for the nutrients removal and for the sludge treatment. The theoretical concepts are then used in practice by the student with the full design of the studied units.

Law Law analysis in force for the design and realization of treatment and drinkable waters plants. Law analysis in force for sludge treatment plants. Waste water Project data for waste water treatment plants. Biological treatments Attached and suspended growth reactors, kinetics of biological growth. Aerobic and anaerobic processes; theory of processes design. Design in advanced treatments Biological nitrogen removal, nitrification, denitrification. Biological phosphorus removal. Combined removal of nitrogen and phosphorus by biological methods. Removal of nutrients by physical and chemical processes. MBR processes, Constructed Wetlands. Simulation models Simulation model in biological processes: IAWPRC model. Calculation example for real plants. Plant engineering Phoredox process and its modifications, UCT process and its modification systems for small communities Sewage sludge treatment Biological treatment of sludge.
