Learning outcomes
The student should knowing the properties, heat treatments and applications of the most important classes of ferrous materials used in mechanics
Program
Production of steels, and cast-irons. Solidification: equilibrium and non-equilibrium. Binary phase diagrams. Fe-C phase diagram, phases and constituents. TTT and CCT curves, hardenability (Jominy). Classification of steels. Mechanical properties of metallic materials. Steels: general purposes, for special uses, tools, stainless steels, Hadfield. Cast Irons. Aluminium alloys. Classification for Aluminium alloys. Aluminium alloys: applications, strengthening methods.
Development of the examination
LEARNING EVALUATION METHODSwritten and oral. The written test will deal with phase diagrams, CCT and TTT curves, steel and aluminum alloys classification, properties of steels and cast irons. During the oral examination, the candidate will be interviewed on the whole course program body.
LEARNING EVALUATION CRITERIAThe student will have to show a sufficient level of knowledge of all the topics included in this course.
LEARNING MEASUREMENT CRITERIAbase of 30 points.
FINAL MARK ALLOCATION CRITERIAThe written exam will be evaluated up to a maximum of 15 points, with a oral access cutoff of 10 points. The oral part ofthe exam will be organized on a 3 query basis. Each query will be evaluated from 0 to 6 points.
