Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide knowledge on the technologies needed for the design and implementation of systems and equipment for automation and industrial robotics.
Program
The course deals with the main technologies required to design and develop control systems. The main topics of the course are given in the following. Measurements in control systems. The measurement process: errors and uncertainties. Data acquisition systems. Introduction to the process control. Control system architectures. Local area networks for automation. Fieldbus. Electric drives. Static and dynamic analysis of DC motors, stepper motors, brushless motors and AC motors. Electric power converters. Power semiconductors devices. Static converters. Inverters. Programmable logic controllers (PLC): architectures and programming languages. Elements of industrial robotics: kinematics, dynamics and control systems. Students are invited to develop a project on a topic of the course.
Development of the examination
LEARNING EVALUATION METHODSOral examination. A project on one of the topics covered during the lessons will be proposed to each student.
LEARNING EVALUATION CRITERIAThe student, during the oral examination, should present and discuss the eventual developed project and demonstrate that she/he has the necessary knowledge and methodological and technical competences to design and develop control systems. To successfully pass the oral exam the student has to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of teaching content, presented with the use of proper technical terminology. The highest rating is achieved by demonstrating a thorough understanding of teaching content, exposed with complete mastery of technical language.
LEARNING MEASUREMENT CRITERIAThe final mark is in thirtieths.
FINAL MARK ALLOCATION CRITERIAThe final mark will be assigned adding the evaluation of the oral examination and of the eventual developed project. The student can achieve up to a maximum of 10 points in the project. The oral exam will be divided into two or three questions, depending on whether or not the student will present the project. Each question will be evaluated with a score ranging from 0 to 10 points. The praise will be given to students who, having achieved the highest rating, have demonstrated complete mastery of the material.
